Chapter 21: I miss you
Chapter 21: I miss you
Mother He doesn’t visit often, and occasionally when she does, it was during the day, when Ye Xun was in school. So even though He Yu and Ye Xun had been dating for a long time, neither side had met. When she heard Ye Xun’s greetings, her expression turned slightly complicated, and she hesitated for a while. Without a reply or even making a song, she entered the apartment.
Ye Xun set the garbage bag outside the door, washed her hands, and poured a glass of water for Mother He.
Probably because she didn’t quite approve the relationship, Mother He was tense from the beginning to the end. Ye Xun was sensible; she knew what Mother He was thinking and took the initiative in starting a conversation. Mother He briefly asked a few questions, and she answered them patiently, one by one. When she heard that Ye Xun was 22, Mother He immediately frowned.
For a moment, the temperature seemed to drop; the atmosphere had frozen. She was not able to accept this situation, but in the end, she couldn’t do anything about it. After a long time, she calmed down and talked with Ye Xun for half an hour.
At noon, He Yu brought the groceries and returned. As soon as she entered, she saw the two sitting on the sofa and chatting like everything was normal. At first, she stood there in a daze; then, she reacted with a shout, “Mom.”
The previous heavy expression on her mother’s face eased up a little and nodded slightly in response.
He Yu glanced at Ye Xun with a guilty look, and the other party looked back calmly.
The three had lunch together, but because He Yu had to open the shop in the afternoon, she had Ye Xun escort Mother He home instead.
Ye Xun stayed for dinner before leaving. Although Mother He had her complaints about Ye Xun’s age, she didn’t make things complicated and decided that the age gap was normal. After meeting her today, she could guess as to why He Yu was always hiding Ye Xun from her. However, as a person gets older, they start to lose interest and become more relaxed when dealing with other people’s affairs. She was also trying to be more open-minded and decided to leave let the younger generation be responsible for their affairs. She just wanted to live the rest of her days in comfort, playing cards with her grandchild. Although she was still concerned, she no longer interfered.
Ye Xun understood Mother He’s intentions and concerns, so in the following days, she would go shopping Mother He and bought small gifts for He Yu’s family when she visited.
He Yu was more concerned about Ye Xun’s education. She didn’t go to graduate school, so she had no idea what it was like to be a graduate student. For the next half of the year, she researched everything about T University and bought reference materials that Ye Xun might need.
Jiang Yun said she was like her mother and was more worried than even Ye Xun’s biological parents.
“Today’s schools are more stressful than before,” she said softly, “I can’t help much anyway, so this is all I can do for her.”
Jiang Yun quipped: “She hasn’t even left yet and you’re already like this. When she leaves, I bet you’ll fly to Beijing the next day.”
He Yu smiled but didn’t deny nor defend herself.
It may be because she was leaving soon, but time passed extremely fast, just like the sand in the funnel, flowing at a fast rate. Ye Xun leisurely spent her time, and occasionally went to the school’s lab for some research, but the rest of her time she spent helping out at the store. Also, the two of them did it at least two times a week, and now He Yu no longer had anything left to teach her.
As she grew used to this comfortable lifestyle, He Yu was even more reluctant to see her go.
But that day will eventually come. In September of the following year, she sent Ye Xun T University and only returned to Chongqing after she spent two days in Beijing.
The first day after their separation, everything felt the same as usual. However, on the second day, her heart started to feel a bit empty, and by the third day, she felt anxious, even during their phone calls.
On the fourth night, at about half-past ten, Ye Xun called, and she had just taken a shower.
She picked up, and the other party only said four words-“I’m at the door.”
She froze as she heard those words, and walked in a daze, opening her door, when two hands grabbed her waist and hugged her.
She wanted to say something, but Ye Xun closed the door and kissed her, stripping off those obstructing pajamas.
Actions speak louder than words; at this moment, all their thoughts and feelings were expressed through actions.
Maybe it was because absence makes the heart grow fonder, it came fast, like the raging ocean waves, while Ye Xun bites her soft red tongue.
He Yu was pinned against the wall, arms wrapped around her shoulders.
“I missed you-”
